Vertical: Vertical Weatherboard System 45mm Structural Cavity

RK Timbers Vertical 45mm is an externally fixed wall cladding system using vertical shiplap cedar weatherboards and RK Timbers RK H 45x45mm structural horizontal cavity battens. The battens are fixed to wall framing at 400mm to 600mm stud centres, or as per NZS 3604, and set out horizontally at 400mm maximum centres.

Horizontal: RK Timbers Horizontal Weatherboard Cladding System

Horizontal shiplap weatherboards suit both modern and traditional cedar cladding designs. Rusticated horizontal cedar weatherboards have a distinctive scalloped rebate that helps water run off, offering a classic look with reliable performance. The profiled finish highlights the natural features of western red cedar. With modern machining, a wide range of horizontal architectural profiles are available to suit different applications.

Rusticated weatherboarding is no longer limited to rural buildings and is now widely used in high end residential and architectural projects across New Zealand.

Finish options include bandsawn or dressed, with a range of tinted wood oils that can be factory applied to suit the design intent and improve performance and durability.

Bevel Back: RK Timbers Bevel Back Weatherboard Cladding

Bevel back cedar weatherboards provide a classic, durable and proven exterior cladding solution. Western red cedar is well known for its performance, longevity and natural design appeal.

This cladding style has been widely used in New Zealand since the 1940s and remains a trusted option for both traditional and modern homes.

Bevel back weatherboards are designed to allow ventilation, drainage and drying, supporting strong weather tight performance.

A range of wood oil coating colours and texture options, including bandsawn and dressed finishes, gives designers flexibility to suit different building styles and environments.

Board & Batten: RK Timbers Board & Batten Cladding System

Board and batten is a traditional vertical cladding system used on residential and commercial buildings. Western red cedar board and batten cladding offers strong weather tightness and a high quality natural finish.

The system uses wide solid cedar boards with matching battens, creating a durable and elegant alternative to simple ply cladding.

Cedar board and batten is increasingly used in modern architectural buildings, especially in coastal areas and throughout the South Island, where a strong natural aesthetic is desired.

RK Timbers board and batten cladding typically uses 180mm wide cedar boards laid over framing with an 8mm gap, sealed with a batten. The system provides more depth than shiplap or bevel back profiles and performs well in harsh weather conditions.

Finish options include bandsawn and dressed cedar, along with a wide selection of wood oil colour tones.

Larch: RK Timbers Larch Cladding Systems

European Larch is a natural timber cladding option with a pale, warm colour range from light reddish brown to golden brown. Over time, it weathers to a muted grey tone.

RK Timbers Larch is FSC® certified and available in Vertical, Horizontal, Bevel Back and Board & Batten cladding systems.

Larch has close growth rings, fine grain, high resin content and good density, giving it strong durability properties.

It offers a rustic, Nordic appearance with visible knots and grain. Some surface checking can occur, adding to its natural character.

Factory coating options include Dryden WoodOil clear, blonde and silver grey finishes.

RK Timbers sources Larch in Unsorted I III grade, the highest commercially available appearance grade of Siberian Larch.

Truwood®: Thermally Treated, Clear Grade, Low Density Hardwood

RK Timbers also offers Truwood®, a thermally treated, clear grade, low density hardwood sourced from well managed forests.

The thermal treatment uses heat, water vapour and pressure to improve durability, stability and appearance without chemical treatment.

Truwood offers increased durability, improved dimensional stability and a rich teak coloured appearance.

It carries Durability Class 2 and is more stable than many other natural cladding timbers, reducing movement such as cupping, splitting and checking around fixings.

Truwood is suitable for cladding and is available in a range of 19mm vertical and horizontal weatherboard profiles. It is profiled to NZS3617 and BRANZ Bulletin 411 and is compatible with standard RK Timbers system details.

RK Timbers coats Truwood in specially formulated water based wood stains, available in natural colours from mid brown to walnut and black.

Truwood is also suitable for window frames, doors, sliders, garage doors, louvres, gates and internal joinery.

Interset®: Recessed Window System

RK Timbers offers the INTERSET® Recessed Window Flashing System for vertical and horizontal shiplap timber cladding.

The system includes aluminium flashings and thermoplastic stop ends that create a picture framed window recess, allowing aluminium windows to be recessed to the framing line.

This provides a clean contemporary look while improving thermal and weather tightness performance.

INTERSET flashings are used with RK Timbers Vertical or Horizontal 45mm structural cavity systems and are suitable for Western Red Cedar, European Larch or Truwood® cladding.
