On rethinking timber flooring through design collaboration

Flooring is being reconsidered. Long treated as a functional layer, it is increasingly becoming part of the design conversation.
A new global partnership between Tongue & Groove, Established & Sons and Raw Edges reflects this shift. Under the agreement, Tongue & Groove will manufacture and distribute all Established & Sons timber flooring collections worldwide, with Raw Edges leading creative direction.

The collaboration builds on Tongue & Groove’s Co.Lab initiative, which pairs manufacturing with external design input. Its earlier Wall to Wall collection explored how traditional parquet formats could be reworked through colour and pattern. This new partnership takes that idea further, establishing a long-term framework for design-led flooring.
At its core is a simple change in authorship. Rather than being limited to standard formats and finishes, flooring is being opened up to designers, allowing greater control over pattern, tone and composition.
This aligns with a broader shift in interiors, where surfaces are increasingly treated as continuous. Floors, walls and joinery are designed together, creating more cohesive spaces. Within this, flooring becomes more than a base. It contributes directly to how a space is read.

Each partner brings a distinct role. Tongue & Groove provides manufacturing and scale. Established & Sons brings a global design network. Raw Edges introduces a more experimental approach to material and form.
The first collection under this partnership will debut at Salone del Mobile, placing flooring within a wider international design context. It signals a category that is evolving through a shift in authorship.
