Known for its custom design ethos and dedication to sustainability, Sydney-based Volupto crafts exquisite, customisable baths, basins, and vanities for specifiers using the most desirable organic materials of stone, marble, and reclaimed teak. The latest collaboration with Boutique Hotel New Lodges at Bells at Killcare is a stunning example of how going bespoke can turn an ordinary bathroom into a luxurious and unforgettable retreat.
Specifiers often require custom dimensions to accommodate specific spatial needs and design preferences. From a vanity’s width, height, and depth to the sink placement, every detail is customisable with Volupto. “People are interested in custom dimensions to suit their project. If you go on the market, you will usually find the standard 900mm, 1200mm, 1500mm and 1800mm vanities, but anything in between is much harder to find. It has to be custom-made,” explains Vincent.
Creating customised vanities, especially floating ones, according to Vincent, requires skilful engineering from product to installation. “We provide the special brackets because floating vanities can be quite heavy,” says Vincent. “These brackets are installed before wall rendering to remain unseen, allowing the vanities to appear effortlessly suspended.”
Volupto selects materials that enhance each piece's beauty while aligning with environmentally responsible production. Vincent explains, “It’s not new teak; it’s reclaimed teak, which, from a sustainability point of view, is quite good.” This reclaimed teak is sourced and expertly treated to ensure durability even in moisture-rich environments like bathrooms, while quality rails from Germany provide the ideal soft-close function.
Outdoor baths and vanities are having their moment in the sun, and Vincent advises for outdoor installations in Australia, teak requires occasional oiling to maintain its rich natural colour, though some may prefer its weathered silver-grey layer. “Teak can be installed outdoors easily... if you don’t do anything, it’s going to turn kind of grey, which is actually quite beautiful. But if you want to keep its natural colour, you must oil it regularly,” notes Vincent.
"Our outdoor stone composite baths offer a concrete-like appearance without the drawbacks of cracking and weight, providing superior heat retention for a consistently relaxing soak outdoors.”
The custom vanities feature a unique blend of reclaimed teak for the lower body and stone composite for the integrated sink.
Volupto’s latest project for the new lodges at Bells at Killcare boutique hotel, which supplied eight freestanding baths and custom vanities for the luxury hotel’s four new architecturally designed lodges. The baths—constructed from Volupto’s high-quality stone composite—merge the nature experience with a touch of luxury to the lodges.
“Designed by the client, the custom vanities feature a unique blend of reclaimed teak for the lower body and stone composite for the integrated sink,” says Vincent. “The result is a stunning combination of natural and modern materials that perfectly complement the classic building style of Bells at Killcare.”
With nearly endless possibilities, including up to 30 standard colour options and additional custom hues, Volupto offers designers the chance to create personalised spaces that reflect the individual tastes of their clients. “Usually, specifiers or customers call or send us an email with some specifications. It could be a hand drawing, a sketch, or just talking over the phone, but we make it happen.” Vincent says. “After finalising a design concept, precise drawings are prepared for factory production, ensuring each piece meets Volupto’s high standards and the client’s vision can come to fruition.”
