Four benefits of smart locks for the home Allegion

Would you like to know when the children have arrived home safely from school while you’re at work? Or perhaps you’d like to let a courier in to deliver a parcel. With this next generation smart wifi deadbolt, the possibilities are endless. The future of home automation is anyone’s guess as technology develops faster than ever before. However, there are some things we know for sure, and one of those is the increased benefits that come with a wifi-enabled smart deadbolt that does not require a separate wifi hub. Here are the top four benefits of this cutting edge technology.

1. Manage security remotely with smart locks

Schlage’s first wifi-enabled smart deadbolt is now available in New Zealand and offers a new level of control. The Schlage Encode™ Smart Wi-Fi Deadbolt can be controlled through an app on your smartphone, with the lock itself connecting to the home wifi. This means the door to your home can be locked or unlocked remotely with the touch of a button. "The innovative integration of wifi into a lock has opened the door to a world of possibilities and remote control," Allegion’s Senior Product Manager, Albert Mostert says.

2. Receive notifications when someone unlocks the house

With the integration of wifi comes much greater control. "The Schlage Encode Smart Wi-Fi Deadbolt can be programmed with up to 100 unique access codes, each assigned to a different person,” Albert says. “This means that when a person enters their unique code, the person with administrative control of the lock can receive a notification on their phone informing them of the usage. This is particularly useful for parents who may want to know when their child has returned safely from school, or for a person who wants to allow a cleaner or tradesperson access to a property.”

3. Off-site management of holiday house and AirBnB security

“With the rise of properties being rented out as holiday accommodation through sites such as AirBnB, the need for remotely-operated security systems has never been greater. With Schlage Encode, you can remotely change and create unique codes for arriving guests, cancel those codes once they have departed, and manage who has access and at what time,” Albert says.

“In terms of self-monitored security, Schlage Encode is at the forefront of what current technology can offer.”

4. Integration with smart home automation systems

Home automation is on the rise all over the world, and New Zealand is no exception. Here, we’re seeing more and more smart devices in the home, each with the ability to connect to an automation system and work in conjunction with one another. “This is really what smart home automation is all about,” Albert says. “It gives people the ability to purchase a range of different devices, from different brands, and be able to have them all work in conjunction with one another to create a seamless experience for the user. A great example of this coming to life within home security, is when a homeowner uses a connected camera to see who is at their door remotely from their phone and choose to let them into the house by operating the Schlage Encode smart deadbolt remotely from an app.”

Currently in New Zealand, Schlage Encode works in conjunction with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, or independently with Allegion’s Schlage Home app.
