There is no denying that textured walls are a hot design trend. In the most recent issue of BlackWhite magazine, we showcased a number of Resene products that can be used to increase the tactile and visual texture of a wide range of surfaces and substrates. But what if you want to turn up the texture even further, you’re up against structural limitations and you want to be in full control of colour?

Office, retail and hospitality fitouts where you’re trying to create a specific ambiance or add age and character when you can’t make alterations beyond the walls of the space’s tenancy are a prime example of this scenario. If you were after an edgy, industrial look in a newly constructed strip mall, you probably wouldn’t be able to subcontract a mason to come erect a real brick wall, so installing interior cladding to create a faux brick effect would be an ideal alternative. However, many lower quality textured wall panel products aren’t varied enough, resulting in a look that’s too repetitive to feel convincing. The good news is there are better options out there.

Muros offers an extensive range of quality European and authentic handmade wall textured panels, where real walls with aged character have been used to provide the original relief for their large and lightweight veneer wall panels. Independently-verified to resist water, fire, UV and erosion, each fibreglass-based artisan crafted panel covers over 4m2 of surface area and are suitable for both residential and commercial uses. To the eye and touch, Muros Wall Panels have natural depth and texture. From the look and feel they give the impression of real brick, concrete, stone and wood – for application on walls, ceilings, counters and columns. Installation involves five straightforward steps and can transform the walls of your project in as few as 24 hours.

Muros panels can be repainted in your desired Resene colour of choice for a look custom made for your project. Many Muros projects involve application of a creative finish over installed wall panels, such as layering multiple colours with Resene FX Paint Effects medium, making them a versatile option for enhancing the customer’s experience of your space. If repainting in a single hue, Muros recommends using HPLV (High Pressure, Low Volume) overspray, which achieves excellent coverage, but installed wall panels can be – and most often are – painted using a soft roller. Check with your Resene representative for recommendations on the best products and tools for your particular job.

“Correct specifications are based on accurate information and trust, and Muros works closely with architectural and designer clients, installers and project managers to guide and answer technical questions to make specifying Muros in your project simple,” says Muros Director Sejal Blackler.

“We’ve been operating successfully in the New Zealand, Australia and Pacific markets for more than 10 years, managing projects for some of Australasia's largest brands and local companies. And despite pandemic setbacks, we are all geared up to operate for another decade with your continued support. Whether you need to prioritise projects, reconfigure or seek more economic solutions or simply confirm product availability, we are here to help. We are also keen to support our friends in the hospitality, retail, workspace and institutional sectors – and help get the economy back on track!”

“Plenty of resources and installation information is available online for our high-quality Muros Wall Panels – including industry-approved certification, technical information and easy-to-follow install guidelines,” adds Sejal. “We recommend viewing our 400mm² sample panels in conjunction with in situ imagery of completed Muros projects. When supplying samples, we normally comment that the small sections tend to ‘under-represent’ the impact of fully-installed panels. This is particularly true for the Muros Roughcast Concrete style which has significant variation in relief running throughout the full panel.”
