The Te Awamutu project is a new build featuring an extensive wrap-around deck that includes stairs, raised levels and multiple outdoor spaces. Homeowner Pam, who had used Permadeck on two previous builds, selected Venture’s Saltwater shade for her deck, citing the product’s cost-effectiveness and visual appeal. “We have used Permadeck twice over the last 32 years on two new builds. It is an amazing product, and they are such a great company to work with,” says Pam. “On this build, I have an extensive decking area that wraps around the house, and that is why I chose the new Venture product, as it was cost-effective for me, and I love how it looks.”
The Te Awamutu project Builder Rod Shelton of Shelton Homes was equally impressed. “This is the fourth time using Permadeck’s products on different jobs,” he noted. “We confidently used it for the deck, stairs, ramps, seating areas and walkways thanks to its non-slip surface. I like the fact that it has a wood grain to show the direction that the planks go, making it very user-friendly.”
Venture joins the range of Deckorators products that Permadeck has pioneered in New Zealand, with Permadeck’s track record as one of the first companies to introduce composite decking to the New Zealand market. Manufactured in the U.S., Venture consists of a wood-plastic composite (WPC) made with 95 per cent recycled materials. The decking has a cap layer that is scratch-resistant, highly durable, and resistant to mould and staining, making it ideal for New Zealand’s challenging climate.
“We wanted to bring a product to the market that maintained the quality of our premium Voyage line but at a more affordable price point,” notes Craig Nees, Director of Permadeck. “Voyage has been a standout product with a mineral-based technology and no wood, making it nearly bulletproof, but for some clients, it was just out of budget. Venture fills that gap and performs exceptionally well.”
Craig continues, “It’s 35 per cent less expensive than Voyage, and it’s proving to be a great option for residential projects.”
Craig noted that Venture provides the best of both worlds: style and attainable. “The Te Awamutu project provided us an excellent opportunity to showcase Venture’s potential, and I’m thrilled that both the client and builder have had a positive experience.”
While traditional hardwoods have long been popular, Craig highlights that the market has seen a shift towards composites, especially given hardwood’s frequent quality inconsistencies and extensive maintenance requirements.
“Hardwood decking can warp, stain, and even develop mould over time, leading to a lot of maintenance. By contrast, our composites, including the new Venture, feature a protective membrane that prevents mould and dirt buildup,” says Craig.
“This means lower maintenance, greater stability, and a better appearance over time,” he adds.
In terms of safety and functionality, Venture meets a range of applications from residential decks to more commercial settings such as walkways, swimming pool environments and retirement villages. Available in coastal-inspired shades of Saltwater and Sandbar, it pairs an affordable price with slip resistance, making it a suitable aesthetic and practical solution.
Permadeck’s Venture composite decking is now available for homeowners and builders across New Zealand, offering an affordable and eco-conscious decking alternative that is just what specifiers are looking for.
