Here's what construction will look like in Level 2

New Zealand will move into Alert Level 2 on Thursday, prime minister Jacinda Ardern has announced today.

Moving to Level 2 will amount to a loosening of social distancing rules on worksites, but many of the strict health and safety measures construction sites are following under Level 3 will remain in place.

One of the most noticeable changes will be in relation to how sites employ physical distancing protocols. Under Level 3, work cannot be undertaken on sites or jobs where a minimum distance of one metre between workers is unfeasible. The move down to Level 2, however, will see that restriction loosened, and work on these jobs will be able to take place provided the other remaining health and safety rules are followed.

Consultation should be made with workers as to how they will complete such jobs, as they may require extra PPE or other measures to mitigate any potential risks.

Increased numbers of people may also be allowed on site.

Much will be the same however, with contact tracing, site sign-in, handwashing, and cleaning tools and surfaces regularly all still being required, as part of the Covid-19 Controls plan all worksites were required to develop when the country moved into Alert Level 3.
