“With a background in project and operations management, a passion for gardening, and a love for projects, art, and architecture. My journey into design and home renovation was fuelled by our journey with our past home and my family home, The Britten Stables, and its need for extensive earthquake repairs. My husband Tim and I have built and renovated many homes in Christchurch over the past 15 years. I'm driven by a desire to create spaces that truly reflect individual stories. This often involves acknowledging the space's past and adding details, such as different shapes and textures. It's always been about blending aesthetics with functionality, making every corner not just beautiful, but meaningful.”
For this project, Izzy envisioned a sanctuary that marries tranquility with modernity. “We wanted to feel like we were at a resort while at home,” she shares. The first challenge was finding a concept that balanced the demands of earthquake strengthening work without compromising on style. With the help of firm W2, she embraced innovative solutions that delivered both practicality and stunning aesthetic appeal.
Our products played a pivotal role in bringing this vision to life, seamlessly blending into the design to enhance both the functionality and elegance of the spaces. A standout feature of the renovation is the spa, the centerpiece of the conservatory space, paired with the Oli 316rain head and Oli 316 Linea brushed brass tapware for a luxurious touch.
Izzy describes her design style as contemporary with a touch of minimalism, inspired by natural elements, warm tones, and curvy lines. “Balancing aesthetics with functionality is essential, and I ensure that every design element serves a purpose while contributing to the space's beauty,” she explains.
Looking to the future, Izzy is eager to share her skills with others, taking on projects that help homeowners transform their spaces. She’s also excited to continue her passion for gardening, growing cut flowers as a hobby.
Her advice to anyone embarking on a renovation journey? “Stay true to your vision and be patient with the process. It's easy to get overwhelmed by visual stimulus and over-inspired. Stick to your brief to keep the project cohesive—you can’t do everything in one project.”
Izzy’s renovation is a testament to how thoughtful design and quality craftsmanship can transform a house into a sanctuary.
