When a major storm hit mid renovation, Paul’s home was stripped back and exposed. Thanks to Frame Protection System, the interior stayed completely dry proving the power of smart planning, reduced risk, and true weathertightness.

A full interior and exterior home renovation isn’t always sunshine and rainbows, especially with New Zealand’s unpredictable weather. For one homeowner, keeping the interior dry and protected throughout an extensive renovation was non-negotiable.

During our renovation, we wanted to continue living in the house, and the solution proposed was to use an early close-in system during the recladding phase,” says homeowner Paul. “Our builder suggested using Frame Protection System. The idea was that the building wrap could act as temporary cladding while the new exterior was being installed.

Initially, Paul admits he was skeptical. However, both his builder and the FPS team quickly addressed his concerns.

Once we heard we’d be involved in the project, we offered to speak directly with the homeowner,” says Toni from FPS. “We explained how the system works, the extensive testing it has undergone to achieve CodeMark certification, and the training and guidance we provide to ensure installers understand our expectations and best practices.

Partway through construction, that reassurance was put to the test. With large portions of the original cladding removed, a significant rainstorm approached bringing with it a real risk of water ingress.

We were definitely nervous,” Paul recalls. “Much of the house was exposed, and we were still living there.”

Thanks to the Frame Protection System installed as part of the early close-in process, the home remained fully protected throughout the storm. The building wrap performed exactly as intended, shedding water and preventing moisture from entering the framing or interior spaces.

We were honestly impressed,” Paul says. “Despite the rain, the house stayed completely dry. It gave us real peace of mind knowing the system was doing its job.

For the FPS team, the experience reinforced the value of early close-in in real-world conditions.

Early close-in is all about reducing risk,” explains Toni. “Renovations can be unpredictable, especially when you’re working around existing structures and occupants. Having a truly weathertight system in place means homeowners and builders can move forward with confidence, even when the weather doesn’t cooperate.

Beyond protecting the home from the elements, the system also helped keep things on track. With the building safely wrapped and sealed, trades were able to continue working without unnecessary delays, and the homeowners could remain in the house throughout the recladding process.

This project demonstrates how an early close-in solution like Frame Protection System can play a critical role in both renovations and new builds; protecting homes, reducing risk, and providing reassurance when it matters most.
