It’s a well-known Kiwi brand with its sustainable timber cladding – FSC-approved and fully appraised under BRANZ – used for projects across the country. The versatility of Triclad’s products is impressive, with the exterior plywood Board and Batten system and Lapped Weatherboards bandsawn to create a traditional look.
Triclad is well-versed in using plywood cladding to its full potential, and this includes pre-coating the panels in its factory – a step that introduces significant time and cost savings for the architect, builder and client.
“Our pre-coating service means that whatever the architect, homeowner, or builder wants in terms of their chosen painting system that would traditionally be applied on site, we can apply the first coat in the factory and deliver it ready to install,” says Triclad’s Dave Garmonsway.
“What this means is that when it gets to site, the builder can put the board and batten cladding up straight away knowing that the face and edges have at least one coating, speeding up the project and ensuring that if there is any subsequent movement in either the board or the batten that the white primer is not going to show through. After this, the painter can then come to apply the final coats.
“It eliminates a lot of frustration and a lot of time on the building site, whether you’re a homeowner or whether you’re a builder.”

Immediate installation: Without the need for the first coat to be applied once the product has arrived on site, pre-coated Triclad panels can be installed by the builder straight away.
Protection from the elements: Pre-coating means that the edges of the panels are already coated – something that can sometimes be difficult to achieve if coating is happening on the construction site. This means the product is protected from any weather experienced before coating can be completed.
Cost-effective: Ordering panels from Triclad that have already been pre-coated in the factory is more cost-effective thanks to the speed the process is performed.
Minimising wastage: With pre-coating applied in a controlled factory environment, there is also the potential for less product and paint wastage.
Customisable to every project: Both Triclad Lapped Weatherboards and the Enduroclad Board and Batten Cladding System are available pre-coated. This pre-coat colour and brand can be selected by the client.

The feedback from architects and building professionals who have opted for their Triclad cladding to be pre-coated is that they have all been impressed.
“The builder can put all elements on straight away, as soon as the product arrives on site,” says Garmonsway. It goes without saying that the more efficiently you can do something in the building process, the better. And this doesn’t disrupt anything; it doesn’t make it any more difficult for the builder, the homeowner or the architect, it just makes it a lot easier by streamlining the whole process.”
