ArchiPro speaks with Vacuum Elevators about this generational trend and the practicality and modern technology of its vacuum elevators.
"We are responding to new market trends," says Pablo Brizio, Co-Founder of Vacuum Elevators.
“We are modifying our products to better meet this market. One installation we've recently done in Auckland exemplifies this trend of future-proofing the family home – preparing rather than reacting to immediate mobility issues."
According to Mr Brizio, the motivation behind installing elevators in homes can stem from a desire to prepare for future needs rather than the immediate necessity of accessibility within a multi-level house. "The owners of these houses have full mobility to walk up the stairs, so it's not necessarily solving an immediate problem for them but mitigating one in the future so they can stay in the home long-term,” says Mr Brizio.
This forward-thinking approach to preparing the house for future mobility issues allows homeowners to maintain their independence and comfort as they age without the pressures and stress of moving house.
Vacuum elevators are cylinder-shaped residential elevators that use vacuum technology. “The vacuum technology sucks air from the top of the cabin lifting the cabin up. On the way down, it doesn’t consume energy,” Mr Brizio explains.
Installed in as little as two days, vacuum elevators offer several advantages, such as the recent installation of Vacuum Elevators’ PVE-37 model in Auckland. "Our benefit is that it requires little work from the builder. With traditional lifts, you need to do special foundations, but our elevator is lightweight and can sit on the existing floor. The customer only needs to do a perforation through the middle floor, and we come and do the installation," Mr Brizio remarks.
Vacuum elevators are designed with both aesthetics and functionality in mind. "Many times, the elevator fits perfectly in the staircase void and matches the framing of the windows. It looks like the house was designed with the elevator in mind," says Mr Brizio. This seamless integration ensures that adding an elevator keeps the home's existing design and aesthetic appeal intact.
1. Versatile and user-friendly
Vacuum elevators are for more than just older homeowners; they provide convenience for various needs. "Homeowners also use these elevators for practical purposes, such as transporting groceries, suitcases, and other heavy items between floors," says Mr Brizio.
A vacuum elevator saves on lift shaft costs, landing doors, maintenance, power consumption and the lift's life cycle. This can be a saving of up to NZD$25,000.
When asked, ‘How much does it cost to install an elevator in the home?’ Mr Brizio says Vacuum Elevators are competitively priced, especially considering the minimal construction work required. "A vacuum elevator adds value to the home and can be an attractive addition when selling a property,” he says.
The affordability makes it a viable option for a broader range of homeowners. “Our elevators include the lift shaft and landing doors – no costly engine or machine room is needed,” says Mr Brizio.
“When comparing prices, it’s important to note that our elevators offer savings on lift shaft costs, landing doors, maintenance, power consumption and the lift's life cycle."
"This can be up to NZD$25,000 in savings for a two-stop lift.”
Vacuum Elevators starting price for supply and installation in Auckland are:
- Model PVE30 (1 person) - two stops from NZD$44,700 + GST
- Model PVE37 (2 person) - two stops from NZD$47,200 + GST
- Model PVE52 (3 person and wheelchair accessible) two stops from NZD$61,400 + GST
“Our prices include a design review of the elevator for City Council (PS1), Final Lift certification (PS4), and telephone,” Mr Brizio adds.
The company’s dedication to providing a reliable product and excellent customer service has resulted in a growing base of satisfied clients.
As the population ages and more homeowners seek to future-proof their residences, the demand for residential elevators is expected to rise. "We are motivated with the industry in which we are working because we see that we can help, and the demand is going to increase," says Mr Brizio. The company is well-positioned to meet this demand thanks to its innovative vacuum elevator technology and commitment to innovative finishes, such as the new options of a mirrored ceiling within the cabin and a singular LED strip light instead of an LED lamp.
Future-proofing homes with vacuum elevators is gaining momentum, driven by the desire for long-term comfort and convenience. With Vacuum Elevators easy installation, aesthetic versatility, and practical benefits, vacuum elevators are proving to be a smart investment for homeowners looking to enhance their living spaces for the future.
