Garage door won’t open all the way? Garage door won’t open with a remote? Or if your garage door’s not working?

To help you troubleshoot your electric garage door issues, here are the tips to get to the root of the problem.

  • Make sure the opener is plugged in and switched on.
  • Pull the emergency release chain – if the door still won’t open, proceed to the next step.
  • Check the tracks – look for dirt, rocks or anything that could be blocking them.
  • Check the door – check the frame and panels for signs of impact or warping.
  • Cool the motor down – allow the motor to cool off, as it may have overheated.
  • Press the auxiliary button – if it doesn’t work, you may have a faulty controller.
  • Try the remote – if this doesn’t work, check the batteries, as they may be flat.
  • Change your security code – someone nearby may have accidentally pressed your code to try and open their own door.
  • Check the header and door bracket – look for any misalignment or looseness.
  • Check the drive belt – look for any looseness and tighten accordingly.
  • Check the safety sensitivity control – this may be malfunctioning if the door is reversing suddenly.
  • Check the height adjustment screws – these may need adjusting if the door only partially opens or closes.

The best way to prevent these problems from occurring is to ensure you garage door is serviced every 12 months by a professional garage door technician. Taking good care of your garage door will substantially increase its lifespan and save you the hassle caused by unexpected problems.
