Enjoy more environmentally friendly, whole-home comfort with significant power savings.

Since 1994, Mitsubishi Electric has utilised its super energy efficient heat pump know-how to specifically design and manufacture hot water heat pump solutions. The range is called Ecodan and is now the preferred way, in Japan and Europe, to efficiently heat water with minimal environmental impact.

“The Ecodan Hot Water Heat Pump can do more than just efficiently heat water. The extensive line up also includes total home heating solutions that cover all hot water needs as well as super energy efficient room heating—all through the one system,” Mitsubishi Electric’s Jon Leyland says.

These total-home heating solutions provide room heating using radiators as well as underfloor heating. It is the ultimate in home comfort.

Ecodan Hot Water Heat Pumps are made up of three key components:

  • Just like a heat pump for space heating, the Ecodan outdoor unit uses electricity to absorb freely available heat energy from the surrounding air and then transfers it to the home so it can provide energy efficient hot water heating and heating for underfloor or radiators.

  • Ecodan provides hot water via a dedicated all-in-one pre-plumbed, 200-litre cylinder specifically designed to integrate with the Ecodan outdoor unit. Alternatively, the Ecodan outdoor unit can be connected to a differently sized hot water cylinder via the Ecodan Hydrobox module.

  • Ecodan Hot Water Heat Pump Systems come standard with built-in Smart Energy Control. This easy-to-use interface provides homeowners with smart energy monitoring to maximise energy efficient operation.

On-screen power usage information gives freedom to efficiently manage the overall hot water energy use. Daily and weekly timers take advantage of off-peak tariffs to save even more on power bills.

Zone control can be used to set different temperatures for different rooms, or turned off completely.

Combine radiators, underfloor and hot water heating all through the one system.

The Ecodan Range has been tested specifically for cold climate conditions to efficiently heat water all year round and boasts an impressive effective outdoor temperature operating range of -20°C to +35°C.

“Whether you are building a new home, renovating or looking to retrofit, the Mitsubishi Electric Ecodan Hot Water Heat Pump System can be integrated into any kind of project.”

Ecodan can replace existing gas, diesel and direct electric systems and still utilise the existing underfloor or radiator heating loop.

The Ecodan Range is extremely efficient and has quiet operation for high-density housing and urban apartment blocks.

“It is extremely flexible and can be used to heat potable hot water or it can be designed as a whole home heating solution. It can include underfloor heating and heated towel rails in the bathroom. Multi-level homes could incorporate radiator heating panels in the upstairs areas and the ground floor level could be designed with underfloor heating for polished concrete floors.”

The Ecodan Hot Water Heat Pump Range can be connected to a multi-room air conditioning system to provide total-home comfort via one outdoor unit.

“Ecodan can even be connected to an air conditioning multi-room system all through the one outdoor unit. This means you can enjoy energy efficient heating and cooling – year round. It truly is the ultimate in year-round comfort,” Jon says.

Guaranteed efficient water heating even on the coldest days.

The Mitsubishi Electric Ecodan Hot Water Heat Pump Range has specific sub-zero models called the Zubadan Series. These suit a wide range of applications and maintain full heating capacity as ambient temperatures drop below zero right down to -15°C.

While Wi-Fi control is not available just yet, this functionality is on the horizon. For now, Smart Energy Monitoring is easily accessible via the intuitive easy-to-understand control panel allowing homeowners to check electricity consumption and heat output.

For those who have chosen a hot water central home heating system, Zone Control can be used to set different temperatures for different rooms or turned off completely.

“The estimated return on investment of an Ecodan Hot Water Heat Pump system, when compared to a gas or direct electric heating system is, on average, four years,” Jon says.

Minimal carbon footprint compared to traditional forms of water heating.

Updating your home heating and hot water heating to a heat pump system is an investment that will pay off instantly with lower electricity bills every month. When compared to traditional water heating you could save up to 70 per cent on heating costs using an Ecodan Hot Water Heat Pump.

Traditional electric hot water heaters produce up to three times the amount of greenhouse gas compared to a low emission alternative such as a hot water heat pump. Instant gas hot water systems are even greater greenhouse gas contributors, producing a staggering seven times more emissions compared to hot water heat pump technology.

As such, EECA has identified heat pumps as playing a key role in the ability to significantly reduce costs and greenhouse emissions from energy use.

“Substituting existing and less efficient technologies with more efficient ones such as an Ecodan Hot Water Heat Pump, has the ability to make a significant reduction in overall greenhouse emissions.”
