BORA: cooking up a storm has never been easier… or less steamy

Innovative system offers you more freedom.

When the BORA cooktop extractor system was launched back in 2006 it set the standard for downdraft systems and propelled the company towards a new direction in kitchen appliances.

Most recently, that has culminated in the development and release of two high-end modular cooktops—BORA Professional 2.0 and BORA Classic 2.0—and an all-in-one cooktop, BORA Pure, says Nick Simeonides of Kouzina, the exclusive supplier of BORA products in New Zealand.

“BORA has really revolutionised the concept of the social kitchen with its innovative appliances and many of our clients are embracing the range, which we find really sits well with a minimalist design aesthetic and desire for clear, contemporary sightlines in our homes.

“The BORA range has been specifically designed to be integrated into island benchtops and the ability to remove unsightly overhead extraction units from the design scheme is very appealing.”

I can see clearly now: no more steam at eye level

BORA products can be set up as exhaust air or recirculation systems. When specified for external venting, they are supplied as a complete system including all required ducting.

“BORA extraction fans have a draw-down capability of approximately four metres per second, making them incredibly efficient. It means that ducting of up to six metres with six bends can be installed without a noticeable drop in functionality,” says Nick.

“For applications where greater ducting runs are required, BORA Professional 2.0 and BORA Classic 2.0 can have additional fans added along the system to maintain the desirable level of extraction.

“In the case of the recirculation model, the fan directs vapours and odours into a specially developed filter before the purified air is sent back into the room. With either system, home chefs can rest assured that steam and cooking particles will be efficiently drawn away.”

Recirculating filters have a lifespan of 1–2 years before needing to be replaced depending on the model, Nick adds.

The BORA holy trinity: Professional 2.0, Classic and Pure

Kouzina is excited to be offering homeowners three BORA models with which to anchor their kitchen design, each offering high levels of integration, says Nick.

“Professional 2.0 is the flagship model and while the name may suggest Michelin Star-level skills are needed, nothing could be further from the truth. All of the BORA models are designed for domestic applications with an emphasis on ease of use.

“Professional 2.0 and Classic 2.0 have been designed as modular units allowing for a level of customisation not previously seen in a cooktop appliance. Users can choose from a range of induction modules including wok cooktop, glass ceramic modules, a gas module and a stainless steel teppan module, along with extractor modules, to customise a cooktop that suits their own cooking needs.

“BORA Pure is the all-in-one offering that features an induction cooktop with the distinctive round integrated extractor unit, the grill cover of which comes in a variety of colours, adding a touch of personalisation to the kitchen decor.”

Easy use, easy clean

Both BORA Classic 2.0 and Pure feature integrated touch controls on the cooktop surface while controls for Professional 2.0 are integrated into the cabinet front. Additionally, thanks to their low profile—less than 200mm—maximum storage space is maintained beneath the units, allowing for pots, pans and/or other kitchen utensils to be stored directly beneath the cooktop for even greater functionality.

Another standard feature of the BORA range is that all parts that come into contact with cooking vapours and particles can be easily removed for cleaning.

“Cleaning conventional extractor units is a laborious task that most of us would happily avoid. With BORA, the cleaning of the working parts is as simple as removing them from the unit and placing them in the dishwasher,” says Nick. “Which means you can carry out regular cleaning of said parts to maintain optimum performance with the minimum of fuss and bother.”
