Not even relentless rain could put a damper on spirits at our beach clean.

Ten of our dedicated staff members braved the weather to collect rubbish from the coastline of Motuihe Island in the Hauraki Gulf.

We were guided by non-profit organisation Sea Cleaners who remove rubbish from New Zealand’s coastline. Since 2002, the organisation and its volunteers have removed more than 8.8 million litres from the sea.

It was an early start as our team of support, retail and warehouse staff met at Auckland’s Westhaven Marina at 7am. We boarded Sea Cleaners’ vessel and cruised over to Motuihe Island where we were briefed on our mission.

Donned in raincoats and gloves, we combed the tideline for pieces of rubbish. The beach appeared fairly rubbish-free at first glance. On closer inspection, we quickly discovered the beach was littered with food wrappers, bottle caps, straws and plastic bags—not good!

The Sea Cleaners’ team also educated us on looking for ‘nurdles’. The lentil-sized pellets are used to make plastic goods but often become lost during transit or manufacturing and end up in our oceans and on our beaches.

After a half day’s effort, our team helped to collect more than ten large bags of rubbish of litter—an awesome feat! It was an eye-opening experience and we thank Sea Cleaners for the opportunity to make a difference.

In recent years Città has become increasingly mindful of the environmental and social challenges facing our planet and the overall impact of our business. It’s a journey of many challenges and learnings, but we’re committed to moving forward and making informed decisions based on what’s best for the wellbeing of our planet and its people.

We’re proud to announce we’ve developed a comprehensive sustainability strategy to help guide us to become a market leader in minimising our environmental impacts.
