Haynes Glass is one local company determined to be around post-lockdown.

A little over 25 years ago, Peter Hayne opened a small glazing company in Auckland’s eastern suburbs handling fairly routine jobs such as installing shower screens and mirrors and repairing windows and windscreens

In the intervening two-plus decades, Peter grew the business to the point where Haynes Glass is now well established as a leader in residential and commercial glass installation.

“Since those early days, we have taken on new product lines and become experts in balustrades and splashbacks. Most recently we have added larger scale commercial projects to the mix taking Haynes to the next level. We work closely with architects, builders, home owners, renovators and commercial fit-out operators,” says General Manager, Matthew Hayne.

“Most of the processing of the glass is handled in-house by the Haynes Glass team, which consists of 20 specialists and support/admin personnel. We service the greater Auckland area from Pukekohe right through to Albany and have even been known to go as far afield as Hamilton and Warkworth. We are dedicated to our employees and our clients and remain committed to providing first-class service during and post lock down.”

A different way of doing business

“There is no denying that the Covid-19 outbreak has changed the way Kiwi businesses operate, especially the small-to-medium family run businesses—something we at Haynes Glass have experienced first-hand,” says Matthew.

“Like many other businesses, our factory was forced to close and we have been operating remotely during the start of the lockdown period. Haynes Glass was authorised to offer an essential service of repairing broken windows for those in need and mobilised a team of glaziers around Auckland willing to help with hazardous breakages.”

Matthew says it’s been an interesting learning curve running the business while juggling a new way of handling family commitments as well.

“It’s certainly a busy time. In between homeschooling my delightful six-year-old daughter Akira, ensuring quality time with my beautiful partner, Megan and developing a special wee bond with my little seven-month-old baby boy, William, the home office in Hobsonville Point was and remains a hive of activity for managing essential glazing projects.

“On the other side of Auckland, my mum, dad and brother—who also work in the business—have, via email and phone calls between households, ensured the operational planning of the company continued; punctuated by regular Facetime calls from the grandkids.”

Support local, buy local

Outside of the lock down, Haynes Glass specialises in providing an array of glazing services from residential showers and mirrors, balustrades and pool fencing through to commercial and retail fitouts.

“Although our business, like others, is certain to feel the pain of the new economic environment, we look forward to the challenge in front of us and will look to support our fellow New Zealand manufacturers and suppliers.

“We are all in this together, so remember to support your local businesses; like them on Facebook and Instagram, refer them to your family and friends and, most importantly, leave positive reviews when it’s warranted. Now more than ever, every Kiwi business is an essential business and your loyalty could be the difference between their continued viability or their closure.”
