Of late, natural stone has been the material of choice in residential landscaping. Materials that create an organic aesthetic are being specified frequently, as well as those materials that reflect the look and feel of the cultures and landscapes of the Pacific.
“People are striving to create an authentic island feel with natural volcanic and coral stones making an impact on the market, as well as using other materials such as glass pool tiles to achieve the most natural oceanic feeling,” Pono Stone’s Debbie Carelli says.
“Lava and basalt stones are popular choices at the moment, as are coral stones and limestone,” Debbie says. “Most of the Pacific Islands were formed volcanically and we’re seeing New Zealanders really embracing the natural landscapes of the Pacific Islands into their hardscaping material choice.
“It’s something that started in large hotels and resorts and is now filtering through into residential landscaping.”
