Alnor Mechanical Ventilation Systems:
ALNOR, based in Poland, started its activity in the market in 1994 as a producer of mechanical ventilation products. A young and dynamic team ensured the company progressed and now employs over 500 employees. The product offerings include different types of units for Apartments, Houses, and Commercial properties, complimented with all components relevant to designed systems. The company also includes a Passive House MHRV unit.

Understanding MVHR Systems:
Heat recovery ventilation is also known as mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MHRV). The ventilation system is used to extract stale air from the rooms and replace it with fresh and filtered outdoor air while a significant part of the energy consumed to heat the house is recovered and transferred again to the premises.

The whole process exhausts air from the so-called wet rooms like kitchen, laundries and bathrooms and supply fresh air into all habitable rooms and bedrooms. The proper operation of natural ventilation depends on weather conditions and house airtightness.

Importance of Mechanical Heat Recovery Ventilation:
In details, during spring-summer season, when the temperature difference between indoor and outdoor air is rather small the airflow is reduced. In autumn-winter season natural ventilation should operate properly if we assure the inflow of outdoor air to the premises, but the consequence will be a heat loss.

Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) still in many markets is only an alternative for natural ventilation as a primary solution, however, it becomes more and more popular every year. Why is it so? Properly designed and correctly mounted heat recovery ventilation system guarantees effective air exchange in the house all year round. In addition to the above, outside air is filtered before it is introduced to the buildings. Air filters are standard equipment for heat recovery units. Moreover, if the outside air quality is poor, an anti-smog duct air filter can be additionally mounted before heat recovery ventilator.

The units are able to recover up to 90% of heat. How does it work? In the MVHR system, we have two airflows (supply & exhaust) that pass one another parallelly within the heat-recovery ventilator without mixing physically. In the unit's heat exchanger, heat from "stale" extracted air from the house is transferred to the "fresh" air brought from outside.

The heat recovery system is widely used all over the world, as it perfectly suits the energy efficiency trend. If you are planning to build an energy-efficient, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery is a mandatory choice.

What are the Heat Recovery Ventilation Types?
We can divide mechanical ventilation systems with heat recovery into two groups depending on the type of heat recovery unit and solution of air distribution ductwork.

A centralised heat recovery unit is used to ventilate the whole building (house), flat, or group of flats. Such units are usually connected to supply and extract ductwork system which distributes fresh air from outside and extract stale air from the premises recovering heat as well.

The second group represents decentralized ductless heat recovery units, to ventilate homes that have no roof cavity. Lunos is a brand from Germany where we offer a range of products for New Zealand. They have a compact design, low airflow capacity, ceramic core, and no need to install supply and extract air ductwork.

The "push-pull" units are based on the changeover cycle between supplying and extracting air at the same time (ex. 50 seconds cycles). This kind of unit can be connected in bigger systems to synchronize the operation (one unit works in supply mode, second in extract mode). The compact design is a great advantage in retrofit projects in old houses.

SlimAIR Units

The HRU-SlimAIR HRV is designed for residential buildings. The HRU has a capacity of 250 m3/h @ 100 Pa, generated by energy-efficient EC fans. A plastic (PET) counterflow heat exchanger is responsible for heat recovery. An ERV version with an enthalpy exchanger that recovers moisture is also available.

Built-in electric preheater protects heat exchanger against freezing, wireless radio communication connects controllers and sensors, and all of it is enclosed inside a self-supporting, insulating EPP casing. SlimAIR HRV can be installed in up to 3 positions, thanks to a special condensate drain system.

Details:

  • 3-position mounting and 2 condensate drains
  • Access to filter replacement from two sides
  • Only 242mm high
  • Light-weight construction – only 29.5 kg
  • CF constant flow system
  • Built-in pre-heater
  • PET or enthalpy exchanger (moisture recovery)
  • One person installation thanks to a special mounting rack.
  • An easy-to-access USB port
  • Modern casing made of expanded polypropylene (EPP)
  • High thermal and acoustic insulation of the casing
  • Energy-saving EC fans
  • Intelligent automatic bypass control
  • Wireless control, also available through a mobile application (Android and iOS systems).
  • Wireless sensors for DCV (Demand Control Ventilation): CO2 and RH
  • Replaceable duct connectors
ERGO Units

The HRU-ERGO heat recovery ventilator is a suspended unit with an extremely efficient counter-flow heat exchanger. The heat exchanger is made from plastic and processed cellulose which has a high water vapour permeability ratio, good airtightness and good resistance to ageing. The spacing between the cellulose fibres allows free passage of water vapour molecules. Larger molecules, like those of odours, cannot pass through the heat exchanger. This prevents the contamination of the fresh air supplied indoors.

The heat recovery ventilators are available in an output range from 250 m3/h to 1000 m3/h. A standard HRU-ERGO heat recovery ventilator features 10-speed energy-efficient fans, automatic air bypass, defrosting mode (based on a fan speed control algorithm), 2 air filters, and steel duct connections.

Optional accessories include the HDE-CO electric heater and the HDW water heater, the HRU-CONTR-TPAD touch-screen controller, as well as CO2 and air humidity sensors.

PremAir Units

Heat recovery ventilation unit HRU-PremAIR is a modern device with 350 / 450 or 500 m3/h airflow @ 100 Pa. The unit is made from cutting edge materials – PET or aluminium heat exchanger and EPP self-supporting casing. Depending on the model, the following heat exchangers are used: counterflow heat exchanger made of PET, aluminium heat exchanger or counterflow, enthalpy exchanger.

Enthalpy exchangers in HRU-PremAIR-E series have a polymer membrane that effectively recovers heat and moisture from the extract air. Such membrane works like a membrane in waterproof trekking clothing i.e. it allows water vapour to pass through, but not liquid water and air. The enthalpy exchanger also blocks the transfer of odours, bacteria, and spores.

HRU-PremAIR-450 is certified by Passive HouseInstitute and can be used as a certified component in passive houses.

Ducting Types

FLX-HDPE-132-52 semi-rigid, oval ducts are intended for ventilation systems in single-family housing projects. FLX- HDPE-132-52 is made of HDPE (high-density polyethylene), a material with crush resistant construction and flexible enough for easy ductwork routing.

FLX-VBH/FLX-VBW oval plastic elbow have male ends to connect with HDPE semi-rigid oval ducts sized 132-52 mm.

FLX-HDPE and FLX-HDPE-A plastic ducts are used for air distribution in domestic ventilation systems.

Silent In-line Fans

The axial-radial ducted fan is a state-of-the-art ventilation solution complete with a plastic housing. The rotor blade design provides high efficiency of operation, and the double- layer sound insulation system with a perforated inner duct brings down the operating noise to extremely low levels. This ducted fan model features a non-return damper to prevent back flow. The installation and removal are easy as a result of clip fasteners which require no tools.

The ducted fan supports the DV-REG-L-1 speed controller.
