Real ostrich egg mounted on a Napoleon III style pedestal. A staple piece for any Curios Cabinet. Mounting exceptional pieces on ebonized turned wood pedestals was very trendy in the 19th century. But these decorative objects got newfound interest in the 60’s/70’s with famous interior decorators such as Madeleine Castaing and Jansen.
It was given a black patina. It was decorated with Greek fresco motifs, which were very popular at the time.
