The Victorian era was a pivotal time in British history, noted for the reign of Queen Victoria, societal decorum, and ornate home design and architecture marked by its fusion of different influences, such as Eastern Asia and the Middle East. The combination of worldly styles lent a distinct characteristic to Victorian design, but nevertheless, one that was unmistakably British. Inspired by the fusion employed so frequently by Victorian architects, Joseph Giles created the Fentiman as a merging of two door knobs distinctly of this era; the reeded door knob and the oval door knob. Combining the oval shape with the reeded motif, a door knob has been created that is at once traditional, but modern in its innovation and conception.
