ÖkoFEN Boilers for Commercial Central Heating

Pellet boilers are a type of biomass boiler, that uses 100% renewable fuel to provide central heating, hot water or process heat for any commercial-scale application. Pellet boilers are an ideal way to reduce your carbon emissions as a direct replacement for fossil fuel gas, coal and diesel boilers.

Scope of use

The ÖkoFEN range is suitable for schools, apartment buildings, retirement homes and larger commercial buildings for domestic hot water and central heating.

Provides 100% renewable heat energy in commercial and high-end residential buildings for:

  • Central heating
  • Domestic hot water
  • Pool and spa heating
  • Process heat

Cascade systems are available for a range of building sizes and applications up to 512kW

Provides heating for any central heating distribution system:

  • Underfloor pipes
  • Radiators
  • Ran coil units
Features
  • Fully automated operation — vacuum fuel supply, ash cleaning, email notification for reordering fuel and faults
  • Uses wood pellets — 100% renewable fuel, made in New Zealand from waste sawdust, with an existing delivery network throughout the country
  • Lowest carbon emissions of any heating fuel in NZ - 0.003 kgCO2e/kWh (98.5% reduction vs. natural gas or LPG)
  • Delivered pellet fuel price averages 7c/kWh for commercial installations across NZ
  • Provides high temperature water for any heating system — underfloor pipes, radiators, fan coil units
  • Delivers large volumes of domestic hot water and/or heat for swimming pools or spas
  • Wide range of sizes to heat any residential or commercial building up to 9,000m2
  • Boiler operation is very highly controlled with wide modulation range — optimises operation in temperate New Zealand climate with varying heat loads during the day
  • Standard efficiency boilers are 93%, up to 103% efficiency with condensing pellet boilers
  • BMS and internet connected for remote monitoring, error notification and continuous commissioning
  • Spare parts held in New Zealand, service agents throughout country for repairs and maintenance
Wood pellet fuel
  • 100,00 tonnes of wood pellets (pellets) are made annually in New Zealand from wood waste (sawdust, shavings) in Taupo, Nelson, Invercargill, and Dargaville
  • Pellets provide 100% renewable energy with the lowest carbon intensity of any distributed energy in New Zealand
  • Pellet CO2 emissions of 0.003 kg CO2e/kWh
  • Comparable CO2 emissions (CO2e/kWh) are natural gas at 0.195, LPG at 0.222, diesel at 0.266, electricity at 0.0977, heat pump with average COP of 3 has CO2 emissions of 0.033 (plus consideration of GWP of refrigerant)
  • Average cost of fuel for commercial applications is $0.07 per kWh delivered, excluding GST
  • National distribution network existing for simple, safe, low impact fuel delivery service
  • Blower truck delivery can be completed with a truck up to 20m from plant room / Energy Box
  • No risk of explosion or self-ignition of fuel
  • Pellets do not burn without forced air circulation, in a building fire the bulk fuel store will only smoulder
  • No requirements for containing spillages from environment
  • No noxious emissions from boilers, minimal flue gas emissions, meets Regional Council Air Shed requirements
  • Avoids Global Warming Potential of refrigerants in heat pumps — 650 to 2,100 times more potent than CO2 when released to atmosphere

Apricus specialises in sustainable hot water and central heating systems for residential and commercial buildings. We work with architects, specifiers, facility managers and homeowners to bring solutions that reduce their environmental impact and meet their hot water and central heating needs.

Apricus brings the latest renewable hot water technologies into the New Zealand market, leading with innovative solar hot water collectors, CO2 hot water heat pumps and pellet biomass boilers. We aim to offer the most reliable eco alternatives to burning fossil fuels like gas, oil and coal.

Our products include:

  • Apricus All In One - heat pump for domestic hot water heating.
  • Reclaim Energy Heat Pump - for domestic hot water heating.
  • EasyPell Heat Pump - for domestic heating, cooling & hot water heating.
  • Easypell Pellet Boiler - domesitc heating & hot water.
  • ÖkoFEN Pellet Boiler - commercial heating & hot water.
  • Apricus - evacuated tube solar hot water systems for homes and commercial buildings.

Our pellet biomass boilers are produced by one of Europe's leading manufacturers, ÖkoFEN, a specialist in pellet boilers and a supplier of space-saving, cost-effective, simple solutions for storing pellets. Offering storage tanks suitable for all space and pellet requirements. The pellet boilers can provide enough hot water for even the most extensive home heating needs, using radiators, underfloor pipework, or a combination. The wood pellets burned are made in New Zealand from waste sawdust and wood shavings, providing 100% renewable heating, whatever the temperature outside.

Our range of hot water heat pumps use some of the most environmentally friendly refrigerants while offering outstanding performance. The very low global warming potential makes these systems the perfect electric alternative to gas hot water systems. Households can now reduce their energy costs and improve the sustainability of their home with ease.

The Apricus solar systems have robust frames, easy-to-use controllers and high-efficiency pumps. The high-performance, reliable designs can withstand New Zealand’s extreme environmental conditions. This is combined with a careful focus on quality and continual improvement by the team at Apricus International.

All complete system packages are individually designed for maximum savings, and on-shore technical support and global experience ensure quality and precision for every installation.
