Alper is a Turkish overdyed patchwork rug.
This rug has been created from fragments of old knotted pile rugs. Pieces from vintage rugs are arranged in patchwork style (an art in itself) then stitched together in blanket stitch, using a super strong thread; 50% cotton, 50% non-flammable polyester.
They have now been recycled to create a thoroughly unique, modern and colourful floor covering. The pile on these old/new rugs has been pared back, the original dyes neutralized, then the rug over-dyed with a deeply saturated single colour.
Each rug is then backed with a heavy cotton canvas, making the finished product extremely durable. The standard of workmanship is very high and these pieces lie totally flat.
NB: Overdyed rugs are difficult to photograph and exact colours may appear different in real life. This rug is a soft powder blue. Please contact us for further images if necessary.
YUVA is a specialist importer of kilims, and other vintage rugs, runners, saddle-bags, cushions and bags. With a love of traditional artistry and an eye for quality, we have found our passion in sourcing beautiful Turkish goods, all hand woven with a rich history.
Our goal is simply to introduce New Zealand to the timeless allure of Turkish rugs and make these beautiful products accessible to everyone. We work closely with collectors, interior designers and first time buyers seeking to add a touch of elegance to their living space. We provide expert advice, ensuring that every customer finds the perfect rug that speaks to their unique style.
Our team travels to Turkey annually to discover new trends, purchase new items and support the local communities that bring these artworks to life. Each piece is personally selected, no two are ever the same. Great attention is given to quality, design, colour harmony and of course, value for money.
