So much of Petersen Tegl’s standard production is by hand, so it makes it easy for Petersen's brickmakers to meet the ever-increasing requests for custom bricks.

These come in special formats (using special wooden moulds, templates or plaster moulds), special colours or special glazes. In fact, some specially sized and coloured bricks originally developed for specific projects have been added to Petersen’s standard range.

The Petersen Kolumba™ brick is the best-known of these, originally developed for Peter Zumthor’s design of the Kolumba museum in Cologne, which opened in 2007.

Petersen's Custom Brick department talks to its clients to find out what they need, then a special custom wooden mould is made for the shape and format that's needed.

Specifications

Custom Petersen bricks are created by working with each client to prepare a brick that is perfect to task, in terms of size, shape and colour.

Scope of use

Petersen Tegl's custom bricks are made for a variety of end uses and required formats. For example, they can be used for ornamentation and complicated detailing, or they can be made to look harmonious in a setting (such as using angled bricks on corners). Bricks can also be made in the exact lengths needed to fit a planned length of the row in the most elegant way.
