A rare vintage trunk by Moynat, Paris in good, original condition. Original brown canvas covering, with leather edging and riveted wooden slats. Full brass hardware including two branded locks, branded corner brackets and two stamped steel maker’s plaques. Original personalising, featuring initials AT and vintage travel labels. Original linen interior, red leather letter pouch and original maker’s label, stamped with the date of manufacture, 31 OCT 1902.

Moynat is one of the oldest trunk manufacturers, founded in Paris in 1849 by Pauline Moynat, five years before Louis Vuitton. The two companies worked in direct competition, both offering travelling trunks of a very similar quality.

Today however, vintage Moynat trunks are more rare than Louis Vuitton examples, as the company ceased production for much of the 20th century. The brand was revived after being bought by LVMH in 2011.
