The home or commercial heater or heating system is no longer a device that requires manual operation. In most cases, modern central heating controls are remote, operated by an app from a smartphone thermostat anywhere in the world. This WIFI heating control has changed the face of the home and commercial heating, opening the door to increased energy efficiency and precision control.

Contemporary thermostats and thermostat controllers

What was once commonplace - the television-like remote for operating heat pumps, central heating controls and other heating systems has been surpassed by superior technology that allows for precision temperature control, whether you’re in the lounge or on holiday on the other side of the world.

Generally connected to an app or programme on a mobile device, many systems have multiple complex control systems allowing for the remote thermostat controls to manage the home system precisely, only turning on and off when required and in the process, reducing energy usage as it keeps the interior spaces at the set temperature year-round.

Just as smart home technology is developing at pace, so too are the possibilities for central heating controls. From the touch screen thermostat to the remote thermostat controller, and geophysical sensors, home heating systems are capable of tracking when a user is leaving or nearing the house and turning on or off as appropriate, ensuring the house is only heated when required. 

A thermostat switch delivers real-time information to the thermostat controller (generally an app), allowing for the user to programme the heating system various ways, from zoning different areas of the building to be at certain temperatures at certain times of the day to ensure a constant temperature is maintained day and night. The residential thermostat and related control technology are continually advancing to provide more and more complex yet easy to use systems, driven by a desire for energy-efficient and ease of use. 

In most cases, central heating systems will have a room thermostat in different zones or rooms of the house, each connected to the control system. This might be a wall thermostat or a more discreet option depending on the user’s choice and system capabilities, each of which can be connected to the others in the house or operate separately as part of a zoned system. 

Just as roller blinds can now be opened and closed from the other side of the world to create the illusion of people being home when they are not, heaters and heating systems can be operated just as efficiently from anywhere in the world. Gone are the days of rushing home when the heater was inadvertently left on.
