These are the most common type in New Zealand, where the cistern is directly attached to the toilet bowl, creating a compact and seamless design. They are easy to install and suitable for most bathroom styles.

In-wall cisterns, sometimes concealed cisterns, are hidden within the wall cavity or in a piece of furniture, leading to a minimalist and modern bathroom appearance. They are ideal for small spaces and contemporary designs, emphasising cleanliness and space efficiency.
