The close coupled toilet suite gets its name due to the cistern and bowl being closer to each other, compared to the toilets that preceded this design. This suite is based on a more traditional style and is still the most widely used design. 

A wall-faced toilet suite creates the feeling of spaciousness thanks to its hidden cistern that is fitted within the wall behind the actual toilet bowl. The pan is then fitted directly onto the floor with the flush button typically against the wall.

Wall hung toilets have a more delicate look as they are fixed to the wall but float above the floor. The small gap between the bowl and the floor can add an extra feeling of spaciousness. The wall-hung toilet suites also have their cisterns concealed within the wall behind them making it ideal for those that don’t like the look of exposed piping. Most traditional toilets have a rim from which water is distributed as part of the flushing mechanism. A rimless toilet suite does not have this rim and makes use of a direct-flush mechanism. This makes them more hygienic and easier to clean. Due to direct flush being present no splashing out of the toilet pan will occur.
