LED Flood Lights are highly powered, wide-angle outdoor lights designed to "flood" a large area with light. They commonly feature efficient LED technology, and come in a variety of shapes, fit for different purposes.

What are LED Flood Lights

The outdoor flood lights angle ranges between 60º and 120º.

Floodlights have broad application, from lighting up the home patio to illuminating billboards, parks, concert halls or stadiums. They are designed for the outdoors but can be very useful inside garages or warehouses as well.

Solar flood lights are an excellent choice for homes and parks since they eliminate the need for direct power. When designed as sensor lights, they greatly improve the overall safety of the property.

Advantages of LED Flood Lighting

  • Up to 90% more energy efficiency compared to halogen lights

  • Reliability in cold temperatures, up to -20°C

  • Resistance to shock or vibration.

  • Longevity

  • Reduced maintenance

  • Cost-effectiveness

  • Ease of use

  • Safety

Where to Use Flood Lights

A broad beam angle is not the only advantage of outdoor flood lights over other types of light. It's also the fact that its applications demand high resistance to weather elements, such as rain or frost.

House Walls

Flood fixtures can be used to illuminate the back or front yard of the property. Flooding wall lights all over the house can be a good idea, but only under specific rules that help create an attractive yet unobtrusive effect. The light should be projected through plant material in order to provide enough contrast, or used on highly textured walls, such as brick or rough stone.

Fences, Retaining and Freestanding Walls

Long walls can be flooded with light for a stunning nighttime effect and some added safety. This is a good solution for driveway lights.

Garden Beds, Bushes, Trees

Small flood lights are an excellent solution for illuminating plant regions. The light should be placed in a way that doesn't create hot spots on individual plants.

For a group or a line of trees, it's better to use a few powerful flood lights instead of many small ones.

In gardens with sitting areas, decks, patios or lawns, flood lights should be mounted above, at a height no less than six meters, at an angle greater than 45º.

Commercial Application

LED flood lights are suitable for use in retail stores that need bright lights able to cover large areas.

Ample spaces, such as warehouses, are sometimes in use 24/7, yet rarely get a sufficient amount of daylight. LED flood lights can help bypass this issue and maintain high functionality levels at night. The same applies to all kinds of covered or indoors storage places.

LED flood light can be helpful in photometric studies for large scale projects. It will help determine the brightness, evenness and intensity of light over a property.

Solar Flood Lights

Solar-powered flood lights feature a small solar panel attached to the fixture. They need adequate placement to receive and absorb the sun's energy and store it inside a battery. During the night, solar lights will use the stored energy to light up the bulbs and deliver illumination.

Things to Consider When Choosing Flood Lights

Lumens are a measure of LED flood light brightness. More lumens mean a brighter light. When choosing a floodlight, the number of lumens will be determined by the size of the space the fixture has to illuminate.

Motion sensor flood lights feature a passive infrared receiver (PIR) that activates the fixture when motion is detected.

Beam angle marks the grade at which the light is distributed. Wider angles can cover broader areas.

Colour temperature is measured in Kelvins and ranges from warm to cool. More Kelvins mean cooler and whiter light. For garden lights, it's better to choose a warmer colour temperature with a low Kelvin rating. Crisp and cool whites with a higher Kelvin are ideal for LED security flood lights.

The IP65 rating means that the floodlight is water-resistant but not entirely waterproof.

The range of the light marks the distance that the light can cover. There is no need to buy big-range outdoor flood lights for residential use, as those are too powerful and can be disturbing even for the neighbourhood.

A single floodlight can cover the whole yard. All it takes is a lamp with a wide detection zone.

Due to their broad and powerful beams, flood lights can be distressing to residents and visitors. It's crucial to install the fixture in a way that will prevent projecting the light straight into the viewers' eyes. Additional glare guards can help to minimise this problem.
