Inventive, curious, dedicated.

Bau Division is an emerging architecture practice working primarily in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions. We aim to create lasting and meaningful designs that are backed up by technical rigour and strategic thinking.

Bau Division was founded in 2018 and is directed by John Baker, a registered architect, certified Passive House Designer and member of the New Zealand Institute of Architects.

John graduated from Victoria University of Wellington in 2006 with first class honours, and has since worked in four notable and award winning offices in Dunedin (Architectural Ecology), Auckland (Architectus), Zurich, Switzerland (EM2N Architekten) and Hamilton (MOAA Architects).

John has a wide range of experience in residential, commercial and education projects, including projects with a sustainable focus. Award winning projects John has worked on at previous firms include:

  • St John's Methodist Church (MOAA Architects)
  • University of Auckland Science Centre, Auckland (Architectus)
  • Ministry of Justice Manukau District Court, Auckland (Architectus)
  • Orokonui Ecosanctuary, Dunedin (Architectural Ecology)
  • University of Otago William James Building, Dunedin (Architectural Ecology)

As well as a variety of other projects ranging from UBS Bank’s global headquarters in Zurich to school projects in New Zealand, and houses everywhere from Auckland in the north down to Alexandra in the south.

Bau Division will approach any project with creative solutions, clear communication, attention to detail and, above all, care for your design.

If you're thinking about how to get started with your next building project,
