I’m Dusky Nigro the founder of Auckland Plumbing and Roofing Ltd. The beautiful women in the picture here is Siarn, my partner in life and in business.
I am originally from a small beach town in the Far North called Taupo Bay. Having explored the world, when it was time for my Dad to settle down, he searched all of NZ and found his piece of paradise where he built his dream home for his family. All seven of us grew up on the land, surfing, fishing, hunting and riding motorbikes. We learnt how to survive and to value what’s most important in life!
Much like my father I grew up wanting a life of adventure and epic levels of success. So as soon as I could, I left my home town and moved down to the big smoke. I went straight into tech followed by a very thorough Plumbing/Roofing apprenticeship where I learnt the value of hard work and excellent workmanship. I count myself lucky to have received the high standard of quality training from my mentor Bob Neale, who I still consider to be one of my closest friends and key role models.
After many years of mastering my trade and building a life in Auckland I met Siarn. This is where life really levelled up!
Siarn and I share an excitement for life especially when it comes to having epic adventures together or with our four amazing children – soon to be five! We work hard to play hard. Our friends think we are a bit crazy as we are always on the move with new ambitious goals to be achieved. We want to show our children they can have anything they want in life, effort = reward is a common saying in our home!
Right now, we are working towards building our dream Bach in rural Mangawhai. We want our kids to have the best opportunities that Auckland provides blended with the down to earth values and fulfilment you can only get from the beach. We will update pictures of our finished design later this year!
After 20 years of employment, contracting and running my own large jobs I was ready to take my business to the next level. So, in 2016 I founded Auckland Plumbing and Roofing Ltd. Business took off fast and before I knew it I couldn’t keep up with the work coming in! I soon realised I need some help in the office and on the tools!
Siarn having over 15 years’ experience in people and project management for one of New Zealand’s largest corporations fitted the scope perfectly. She was ready to take the plunge and move into business ownership and really wanted more time with our family. She has never looked back.
We are proud that our business is still New Zealand Owned/Operated and our team is growing. Our team now our team consists of Myself, Siarn, Hilton (Registered Plumber), Jess (Roofing specialist) and our new trainee Jake.
