In New Zealand, there are industry associations for designers, engineers and surveyors, builders’ organisations, materials and products associations and other building trade groups. What is an industry association?

Industry associations are generally not-for-profit organisations. They work to support the development and sustainability of an industry by acting as a collective voice for those involved in it, protecting their rights and advancing their interests. Association members will share knowledge and information, discuss any arising or potential issues, and set rules and standards for industry best practice. 

They may also offer mentoring programmes, training and support and carry out lobbying activities to influence government policies.

Can anyone join an industry association?

What is a product association?

Much like industry associations, product associations relate to the actual material or product rather than the person providing the service or skill. Think, NZ Pine Manufacturers Association, New Zealand Fibrous Plaster Association, NZ Readymixed Concrete Association, Precast NZ Inc. These organisations exist to champion quality and transparency of products in different categories.
