After returning from the UK where Brendon had his own small company it soon became clear that Brendon not only had a passion for building but what he really wanted was to work for himself so he had control over the quality of work he was producing. After one year of contracting in New Zealand, it was then, in 2010, that Brendon formed Next Level Construct.

The forming of Next Level Construct was a challenging yet rewarding experience. Initially a lot of Next Level Constructs work was in the commercial space. This meant the team numbers grew significantly from a mere few up to 12-15. Busy they were, however Brendon felt he wasn’t getting the satisfaction he was looking for and missed the close working relationship with clients that he had whilst in the UK. Slowly through quality work and strong referrals Next Level Construct grew and transitioned into a full contract renovation and extension business for residential clients.

In 2014 Brendon took an unexpected call from Damo and Jo requesting him to be their builder on the TV3’s television series The Block.  After some initial hesitation Brendon decided to take the plunge, to step out of his comfort zone and do something he never thought he would do.  This was an amazing and challenging experience for Brendon and his team.  The Block tested timelines, pushed boundaries and really had to open Brendon’s eyes to a new way of renovating and project management.  Timelines and schedules have always been important to Brendon and the team at Next Level Construct so it was important that Brendon knew he had quality tradesmen that would go the extra mile to ensure Damo and Jo reached all the required deadlines each week.  The Block tested and taught the Next Level Construct team many skills and gave them great memories.  Damo and Jo were a fantastic couple to work for while the focus was always on delivering quality there were plenty of laughs along the way.  The Block was definitely one of the most interesting building experience’s Next Level has been involved in.

Another stand out project for the company was an architectural new build that was completed in 2013 in Torbay.  This was a challenging project due to the sloping site which had an overland flow path covering 40% of it. This meant they had to build 1 metre above the 100 year flood level. To stabilize the site, a specialist drilling rig had to be brought in, piles were drilled to 7.5m and filled with concrete where needed. A single level 3 bedroom home with skellon roof had a central stud height of 4.2m.  Due the high stud large joinery was used and large areas of glass to maximise the views over the stream which resulted in a truly stunning and unique finish.
