This incredibly busy family approached Poggenpohl asking for a complete renovation-project co-ordination.

Their house in Remuera, Auckland is large, but they needed to satisfy the needs of the three generations living there much better, functionally. But they also wanted a dramatic finished product.

Designer Lara Farmilo worked from the floor upward. Large-format porcelain tiles were chosen for the flooring, The materials for the cabinetry combines high-gloss metallic lacquer, in Champagne Gold, with some warm timber elements. The benchtops and the main splashback are “Eclipse” leathered granite. This certainly adds the drama that was sought.

The splashback at right angles to the spine of the kitchen is black glass with a magnetic backing. This doubles as a message board and a reflection-creator.

The beautiful island, 11cm thick, is a preparation surface, complete with second sink, but also one at which the family can gather to eat, drink coffee and socialise.

In collaboration with Gaggenau the kitchen displays the very best in the integration of appliances. The anthracite finish of the Gaggenau oven and steam oven complement the tones in the benchtops.

The ‘kitchen room’ has a high stud and a sloping ceiling which leads up to a mezzanine floor. Thus, in the design the Poggenpohl cabinets were elevated above normal height. Lara was also conscious that her Poggenpohl kitchen design had to also have ‘bird’s eye’ appeal.

The family’s bar was also renovated in similar materials. The existing “Black Galaxy” benchtop and the patterned wall tiles were deemed to do the job of complementing the Poggenpohl whilst also creating a subtly different feel.

Poggenpohl has provided everyone in this family the most technologically-advanced kitchen architecture along with sheer beauty, Everyone is delighted!
