Art Station Ponsonby Rd Parnell

Website

A beautiful heritage building first opened in 1906 as the Newton Police Station and barracks. We were asked to restore the central cupola which was made of lead with a galvanised tin central sleeve which was leaking badly, We found on removal of the old lead /tin most of the turned timber pillars were rotten. We had them remade from scratch on a lathe using old skool techniques , made good the substrate and re-sheathed in 25kg lead with a copper central sleeve to give it longevity. It came out better than expected the Auckland City Council were very happy with the end result.
