Perfect Pebble, Aylesbury Waterside Theatre, Bukinghamshire.

Website

The architecturally compelling Aylesbury Waterside Theatre was opened in October 2010. Designed as a replacement for the original Civic Hall, the theatre has a 1,200-seat auditorium which can double as a music venue for 1,800 standing; a second performance space seating 200; and large front-of-house facilities including several bars and café.

Externally the building is designed to complement its surroundings, with the undulating base echoing the neighbouring Chiltern hills and the glass façade supported by 106 Larch beams, a reminder of the ancient woodlands nearby.  Island Stone’s Perfect Pebble in Medan Charcoal was used to clad the entire rolling base of the Theatre, its four-sided, interlocking design on full show as it flows seamlessly around the foot of the building.

This project is testimony to not only how well the Perfect Pebble tile handles curved lines, but also that it is completely up to the challenge of large-scale commercial design.
