Bespoke Canterbury House of the Year 2016

The words ‘pool house’ don’t do this indoor-outdoor living space justice; this is a swimming cathedral. A large industrial pipe forms the building’s backbone, with exposed steel beams as its rib cage. Super-high ceilings create a breathtaking sense of majesty and space in the bespoke beauty.

This open-plan water world incorporates a spa pool, changing rooms, and a spacious living area. It’s a tranquil space in which to train, with exercise gear at the ready. Well-appointed with ample easy-care outdoor furniture, there’s no need to towel off before putting your feet up.

Large screens of glass frame the pleasant backdrop of established trees. Every now and then, sheep can be spotted lazily grazing in the field. Huge stackers open to separate decks. The first is a large wraparound number with sun loungers and generous alfresco dining space. It’s neatly boxed in at the edges with built-in seating. A second smaller deck offers a connection to the outdoors.
