Blenheim Railway Station

Website

Ontrack, Blenheim 2011

The Blenheim Railway Station was built in 1901 and is an important example of a typical provincial railway station. It progressed from a small Class 4 station to a major, picturesque Troup-designed station and has a robust, self-confident style that epitomises the importance of railways in the development of the country.

Its heritage value has been recognised by the Marlborough District Council, which has listed the railway station in its Resource Management Plan; the NZHPT has also registered it as a Category II building, and the New Zealand Heritage Trust has listed it as a Category A building. Studio Pacific’s refurbishment of the railway station has involved the removal of added suspended ceiling and dividing walls to strip the building back to its original fabric. A new colour scheme respects its heritage character while providing a contemporary edge.
Remedial work has been undertaken to ensure the preservation of the building, including a structural upgrade to ensure the building’s longevity.
