Contemporary Villa

A light, modern kitchen fits seamlessly in the contemporary renovation of this classic Auckland villa by architect David Ponting.

The kitchen was a significant part of this renovation. The clients wanted to have a light, open space that guests would be able to share while food is prepared, with the option to close the door on any clutter in a hidden scullery. They also wanted the kitchen to have a natural flow onto the living area beyond, with a design that sits in harmony with the space.

Working with Studio Italia’s in-house kitchen designer, Marketa Ramage, they integrated one of Poliform’s most minimal kitchens, the Twelve, into the space. The Twelve has the thinnest door of the range allowing for a wide variety of finishes and materials to be used.

The material palette is a balanced contrast between dark and light. For the island, the crisp white Dekton Bianco benchtop and white Touch laminate Bianco cabinetry is offset with the bold, shimmering black kitchen behind. These tall back cabinets are sleekly finished with a Bronzo Metal Lacquer, allowing them to change colour throughout the day as the changing light is reflected, creating bright metallic highlights and deep rich blacks. The recessed cooktop is complemented by a smooth matte Dekton Nero bench top that seems to disappear in the shadows.

This island also has a playful twist: an organic shaped Feature Sydney Snacktop in Black Elm timber, breaking up the strong geometry of the space and giving it a softness that is in keeping with the rest of the villa.

This kitchen is a chic and inviting spot for family and friends to gather, with a light and open atmosphere that ties in well with the seamless renovation of this classic Auckland villa.
