Due to the Mid North Coast Correctional Facility being identified as a high-risk work site, innovative and long-lasting construction methods were implemented to ensure security and safety challenges were met in the live environment.

True ingenuity was clear in the use of light TRUECORE® Steel Trusses for the custom roof structure of the new accommodation blocks. The 9,700m2 of custom TRUECORE® Steel Trusses were prefabricated by welding high-quality lightweight steel and assembled at ground level, before being craned into position. This resulted in accelerated build times and a strong, straight and precise roof.

The resulting health and safety benefits of reducing workers’ exposure to falling from heights won Watpac a Safe Work NSW award.
