Designing the norsuHOME concept store was an absolute dream come true for our norsu team. When we first laid eyes on the run down, unloved corner shop in East Malvern we couldn’t resist the opportunity to do what we love best, renovate!
After the unbelievable response we received from the norsuHOME renovation, our biggest motivation for the new shop was to create a space that truly does feel like a home. Designing and styling a home can definitely be a daunting process but also so incredibly rewarding, and not to mention a heap of fun! Our concept store is designed to inspire and excite our customers and clients about all things interiors. We believe it’s the small details that transform a house into a home.
When coming up with the vision for our concept store, having black accents throughout was one of the things we really wanted to feature. After seeing Meir’s matte black range of kitchen and bathroom taps and accessories we couldn’t resist - we knew they would be the perfect fit for our gorgeous little store.
Not only is black so on-trend, but it also has that sleek, modern feel that we really wanted to convey through our space. In past projects, we have used brass finishes so it was important to us to demonstrate that you can still achieve a soft and homely feel using black when teaming it with our infamous pastel tones.
We never thought we could be more excited over a kitchen the size of ours (trust us, it’s tiny) but OMG it packs a punch! Meir’s matte black, round kitchen mixer tap pops against our signature blush tiled splashback, and its soft curves couldn’t be more fitting to the Scandinavian design that norsu is known for.
One thing we knew for sure when we designed our kitchen was that we wanted to continue the black theme through the rest of the store and into our beautiful powder room. Our biggest tip as designers is to keep the finishes throughout your home consistent. This will connect each space, creating flow and balance.
In our powder room, we decided to do something a little out of the ordinary with Meir’s matte black tapware. Rather than installing our wall mounted spout and mixer behind the sink, which we so commonly see in homes, in true norsu style we installed it to the side. This allows you to see the beautiful curve of the spout. We couldn’t be happier with the end result.
One question that we often get asked by our customers is do we think matte black tapware is here to stay? If we were asked this a couple of years back the answer would have been no, but it is still here with a vengeance and we can’t see it going anywhere. We are also now seeing some amazing alternatives to black like the insanely beautiful gunmetal and brushed nickel.
We have loved the result of our Meir matte black tapware so much that when it came to our next project it wasn’t a question in our minds to use it again! Be sure to listen closely to Project Seven, where norsu and Meir have teamed up once again to create something very special. We’ll let you in on a little secret… it’s a cracker!
Good luck with your renovations!
Lots of love,
The norsu styling team
