5 Star Glulam:

Our Challenge:
Situated between Fiji’s two most popular resort areas, Denarau and the Coral Coast, Fiji Marriott Resort offers luxury hotel style accommodation. In November 2014, Fletcher Building was named as a construction partner in the redevelopment of Bridgecorp’s ill-fated Momi Bay resort – a contract worth approximately NZD $130 million. Techlam was involved shortly after Fletcher's appointment. The resort was less than half finished and Techlam had to identify which parts of the structure needed to be replaced, which parts could be kept and reinstated, and what needed to be manufactured.

The Techlam solution:
Techlam worked closely with FCC-SP co-ordinating production of the glulam members and arranging shipment. Some of the main tusks weighed several tonnes each and freight from NZ to site had to be managed carefully. The finished resort is stunning - it includes three restaurants, two swimming pools, fitness and recreation centres, gift shops, tennis courts and a spa with eight treatment rooms, 114 free-standing bures and 136 standard rooms. Twenty-two of the bures are over water - the first man made lagoon based resort in Fiji. The resort created over 500 local jobs.

Products Used:

  1. Curved Tapered Beams - These beams reference a rustic Fijian traditional bure. Techlam’s expertise with tapering and curving manufacturing processes enabled the architect’s vision to be realised.
  2. Round Posts - A large number of round posts were manufactured to support the lagoon duplex units and the Resort’s balconies and verandas, blending with the beautiful tropical setting.

“Techlam has done an outstanding job at the resort with dedicated team leaders who proved their diligence and attention to detail in providing timber structures which have the appearance of carefully crafted furniture. ”

“Architects Pacific has great pleasure no hesitation in recommending Techlam for the delivery of structural timber solutions of the very highest quality within time and budget.”
