The space available for this kitchen was so small it required extra attention to detail and clever storage design.  The owner, the principal of a local architectural practise, worked with Poggenpohl, the perfect choice for this challenge, to achieve an interesting and functional design outcome.  They used Poggenpohl’s +Artesio concept to add timber and stainless-steel elements for interest and shelving storage.

The chosen appliances were Miele, including the fully-integrated dishwasher and refrigerator/freezer. The six-element hob on the quite-small island is a testament to the owners’ passion for cooking. The Evoline Port on the island gives them power for small appliances.  The Gutmann Campo II ceiling extractor gives highly-effective extraction, even with the 2.4 metre stud height. The benchtops are twelve-millimetre-thick porcelain and the island waterfalls down to the floor on three sides to give the impression from the lounge and dining room of a solid stone box. On the back wall, the Dornbracht mixer is wall-mounted in the panelling.

Complementing the kitchen is a small Poggenpohl laundry which doubles as a powder room for the ground floor. Bedrooms and other bathrooms are all upstairs. Both the kitchen and laundry are examples of how Poggenpohl can overcome the demands of small spaces. The clients find both work really well and this kitchen was highly commended in the TIDA kitchen awards competition.

Improving the kitchen since 1892

Founded in 1892 in the heart of Germany, Poggenpohl is the oldest and best-known kitchen brand in the world. From that day to this, we have followed the vision of our founder, Friedemir Poggenpohl, who set out to ‘improve the kitchen’.

For more than 120 years, Poggenpohl has continued to ‘improve the kitchen’, transforming it from a humble backroom into a living space that’s at the heart of the home. Our pioneering history includes many firsts, including white lacquer kitchen furniture, ergonomic work-top heights, and the development of the kitchen island.

Technical expertise, materials of the highest quality, meticulous craftsmanship and trend-setting design go into every Poggenpohl kitchen. At our factory in Herford, Germany we pay the utmost attention to detail and aim for perfection in everything we make. That is the Poggenpohl way.

A global network
Poggenpohl kitchens are sent from our factory in Herford, Germany to more than 70 countries around the world. We work with over 450 Poggenpohl studios, whose skilled designers share our values and are able to translate their customers’ visions of an ideal kitchen into reality.
