What makes this site genuinely rare is that it enjoys such a direct relationship with the coastline, where the rugged silhouette of Elephant Rock, sweeping beaches, native headlands and uninterrupted Pacific Ocean views combine to create an outlook intrinsically tied to the identity of Currumbin itself.
A palette of warm, robust materials has been selected to weather the coastal environment gracefully. Honest and enduring, these materials will develop character over time, reinforcing the home's sense of permanence and connection to place. Rather than sitting apart from the landscape, the home seeks to feel embedded within it.
Designed as a multi-generational home, the Brief centred on creating a home that could support evolving patterns of family life. Spaces are carefully arranged to foster both togetherness and independence, allowing the home to adapt as family needs changes over time.
Our relationship with the owners began several years before Greywacke House. Through the early stages of designing their home on another site within the area, we spent time exploring ideas, testing possibilities, and developing a shared understanding of how they wished to live.
When this site became available, there was an immediate sense that it offered something unique. Its connection to the coastline, landscape and broader character of Currumbin presented an opportunity to create a home more deeply aligned with the family's aspirations and long-term vision.
The project's name was chosen by the owners as a reflection of the region's geological foundations. Greywacke rock formations occur throughout the southern Gold Coast, formed over millions of years and helping shape the rugged coastal landscape seen today.
