Manukard Gard

Bordering two national parks at the head of Lake Wakatipu, near Glenorchy and opposite Blanket Bay Lodge, Manukard Gard presented a formidable challenge for Mason & Wales due to its remote location. As you approach this extraordinary property, glimpses of the house emerge harmoniously within the landscape. The unique copper roof echoes the mountainous terrain, while hardwoods complement the native grasses. A lengthy, gentle driveway affords ample time to appreciate the house in relation to the awe-inspiring backdrop of the national park and surrounding mountains. The architecture demonstrates a profound respect for the environment, seamlessly integrating the dwelling into the scenery, and the scale is unprecedented. A fusion of stone, timber, copper, glass and metal characterises the exterior, while recycled hardwood beams and posts are prevalent throughout. These natural materials extend indoors, aligning with the client's desire for authentic products. Reflecting the owners' sophisticated European aesthetic, this generous, comfortable family retreat exudes quiet luxury and possesses an old-world charm that belies its recent construction. While offering standard amenities for family and friends, the property distinguishes itself with a remarkable basement housing a sauna and associated facilities. Enveloped in seclusion, this subterranean space offers unexpected comfort. Well-proportioned spaces and meticulous detailing intertwine to enhance the interior of this exceptional home.
