The O'Connells Pavilion is a striking architectural project located in the picturesque Queenstown, New Zealand. The building was originally opened in 1988 and has recently undergone a $26 million dollar redevelopment that will revitalise the building both inside and out. The project was designed by the renowned architectural firm McAuliffe Stevens, and installed by Architectural Envelopes. Wakefield Metals supplied the copper which was used to create the unique façade of the building.
The design of the O'Connells Pavilion was inspired by The Remarkable Mountains that surround Queenstown. The copper exterior of the building changes colours in the golden hours of the day, just like the peaks of The Remarkables. This effect creates a stunning visual experience for visitors all year round.
The use of copper as the primary material for the building's exterior not only adds to its visual appeal but also makes it a durable and sustainable option that ages naturally as the years go by. Copper is a long-lasting material that is resistant to corrosion and is fully recyclable, making it an eco-friendly choice for the building's facade.
Overall, the O'Connells Pavilion is a testament to the skill and creativity of the architects, installers, and material suppliers involved in the project. Its unique design and use of sustainable materials make it a standout project in the Queenstown architectural scene.
