In this major renovation of a large family home, the architects and their Poggenpohl Designer, Lara Farmilo, wanted the kitchen to be fully-built-into the walls. So Poggenpohl’s +Integration concept was chosen for its seamless connection between the cabinetry and the architecture. Having already installed a Poggenpohl for the builder’s own kitchen, coordination between Poggenpohl and the carpenters was easy.
The Stone Grey fronts, up and over, are contrasted with the white fronts under the hob and on the island, and also with the brushed stainless steel of the Fisher and Paykel refrigerator/freezer. All the appliances are Fisher and Paykel apart from the Gutmann extractor. The tall units are without handles and the vertical negative elements allow for easy opening of doors whilst also enhancing the clean lines of the cabinetry. All drawers are without handles and are push-to-open. The small wine conditioner is the only highlighted element in its small ’bar’ area.
The benchtops are Corian and the small extension is there for occasional and short-period use. This family meets and eats at the dining-room table, not at a breakfast bar. Or outside on the generous deck, which is clearly a significant part of the overall living and entertaining space. But it is the Poggenpohl that is the central focus of it for this family’s lifestyle.
