By Styled by Mon
Over the past 2 years, when the client’s budget allowed, Styled by Mon created a beach home that fulfilled the client’s brief. One of the favourite spaces was converting a laundry to a downstairs bathroom, we used hardwood pallets and an old fence to cover the walls and restored an old clawfoot bath found in a paddock. Then to add a little bit of funk we created an outdoor shower using a surfboard and a rain head shower – it is definitely a talking point! A new Kitchen Inspirations kitchen was added in the existing footprint, making the most of the small space by having clean lines – drawers within drawers, an integrated dishwasher and discreet handles.
The river view was enhanced by adding heating and blinds to the covered in deck to make the space usable in all weather, as well as creating an outdoor bar area with an built in barbeque and firepit with river views. Furniture in the house was rearranged and favourite items were reupholstered by Mon. This old bach is now a warm and welcoming family home which the owners will enjoy for many more years at Sunset Beach.
The brief: To convert a much loved Port Waikato bach to a permanent family home, using a mixture of both old and new furniture.
Parameters: To work within the original floor space, create a funky but practical home for indoor and outdoor living making the most of the spectacular view
