Rydges Conference Centre and Corridors

Website

When Rydges hotel in Christchurch needed replacement carpet for their conference centre and room corridors, they again looked to Advance Flooring.

Covering over 2,000 square metres, the new carpeting needed to match existing decor, as well as being fire resistant and sustainable. Previously, Rydges had chosen the broadloom look of Tecsom carpet tiles from Advance Flooring for their Bloody Mary’s bar and grill, and they knew the benefits.

‘It had to be sustainable first and foremost, and the Tecsom product has a high percentage of recycled content,’ says Rydges general manager David Capper. ‘It also meets and exceeds fire and acoustic ratings.’

They chose from the Linear Spirit range for the corridor carpet, which offers visually seamless joins. ’Although it’s a carpet tile, it looks like a broadloom. The product itself is incredibly hard-wearing and stain-resistant, but if an area gets damaged, it’s very easy to swap in new tiles without having to replace a whole run.’

The corridors had always had a border with a complimentary carpet down the centre, so the hotel chose the border look again as it frames and delineates the corridor spaces for visual relief and interest. An organic pattern from the Linear Spirit bi-colour is matched with a Uni Blac plain grey carpet for the border.

The wide colour range of carpet tile options from Advance Flooring meant Rydges could select tones to match their existing colour scheme and bedroom carpet. They chose lighter colours for the corridors to help to reflect the light, while the conference room was carpeted in a deeper brown from the Ombre range – a modern geometric tile with the pattern used to dynamic effect.

‘And the other great benefit for us is we could get comfort-backing applied in the factory,’ says Capper, ‘so the carpet has a very soft and luxurious feel. And when joining into the guest suites, it kept it all at the same height, softness and luxury underfoot.’
