From early in the project, the owners expressed an interest in pursuing self-sufficiency from the grid through the use of self generated power systems throughout the home. The incorporation of photovoltaic panels on the roof was an obvious response, which feeds solar collected electrical energy back to the mains via an inverter and also features solar water heating backed up with a wetback system during the winter months.

Kitchen, Dining, Family and Sitting area are all strategically placed along the northern aspect, allowing for passive solar gain and protected from harsh direct glare by generous roof overhangs, which provide summer shading while allowing low winter sun in.

This home features outdoor living options to the East and West for flexible entertainment choices, responsive to the seasons, time of day and prevailing weather conditions.

Bedrooms are split between those that take advantage of dawn light - including the Guest Bedroom, with its own Ensuite - and a Master Bedroom which enjoys expansive western views across the adjacent gully and is passively heated from afternoon sunning. Here, the generous Master Ensuite features a freestanding Bath with a view, framed by a large picture window overlooking a secluded spot of the property.

The project includes a Boat Shed and extra Garage with space for a ride on mower, workbench and Washroom located beside the main house, connected by a covered breezeway.

Natural materials, Schist, smokey ash stained Cedar and extensive timber decks - selected to mimic the local surrounds - combined with the unmistakable sheen of clean orthogonal solar panels, finish the home and enhance the environmentally focused aesthetic, binding together the best of rustic and modern appeal.
