Beginning life as an office building once part of the University of South Australia Underdale Sports and Recreation campus, the site now known as the St Gabriel Centre has formed part of the Nazareth Catholic Community. Transformed into a Senior Centre Building, the St Gabriel Centre now offers modern classrooms and breakout spaces to deliver education that matches the current pedagogy.
Facing significant time pressure to produce a design and complete construction, the challenge was put to the major stakeholders involved in producing design documentation and working through a product selection process that would ensure the project was delivered on time and on budget. What was delivered is no mean feat and testament to the effort of everyone involved including SECON Consulting Engineers, Programmed Electrical Technologies, Russell and Yelland Architects, Kennett Builders and the long list of manufacturers and suppliers involved.
Chris Scannell, South Australia General Manager for SAL Commercial, dedicated all his efforts in supporting Anthony Davidson from SECON Consulting Engineers from a commercial lighting product standpoint. Forming a major part of the lighting installation was a linear LED lighting product from the iconic Arrow X™ range by SAL Commercial. When it came to installation, Chris worked closely with the team from Programmed Electrical Technologies to ensure a smooth and seamless installation process.

Key to this project being a success required the linear LED profile to be manufactured in both recessed and suspended options and offer a slim, aesthetically pleasing profile.
The product that was decided on, and was fastracked into production to suit this key project was a slim, sleek and slender product measuring 45millimeters wide and 45millmeters high used throughout the project. Designed to offer a low glare solution along with customised lumen packages to suit each individual project, the Arrow X™ S45S and Arrow X™ R45 profiles were put into production within a matter of weeks.
Showcasing the capabilities of the SAL Commercial team and our key manufacturing partners, over half a kilometer of linear LED product was manufactured and delivered to site within 12 weeks. On time, on schedule and in full.

Now an important part of the Arrow X™ range since the development of this project, the Arrow X™ range now offers linear LED profiles in both 45mm and 80mm luminous openings.
A true success story from idea to completion with an exceptional outcome for everyone involved. Most importantly, the students and educators in the Nazareth Catholic Community, who now have the benefits of a new space to learn and be educated in.
